Idaho State-Civic Symphony’s Youth Orchestra is a collection of the area’s most gifted middle and high school students. In such company, they are able not only to play a repertoire that is likely to be more challenging than possible for an orchestra from a single school, but to perform twice each season in the world-class Jensen Grand Concert Hall at the Stephens Performing Arts Center. Those students accepted as Orchestra members are expected to attend all weekly rehearsals (held 4:30 p.m. – 5:55 p.m. every Tuesday) in addition to the dress rehearsal and the performances, and must also participate in their school orchestras or bands.

For Auditions and Placements, students should be at the Stephens Performing Arts Center backstage by 4:00 p.m. to sign up for a time slot. Students unable to make the scheduled auditions, please contact cjbrien@gmail.com to set up an alternative audition time.

String Audition and Placement Materials:
- Violin--Vivaldi Concerto in A Minor, 3rd mvt. (Suzuki, Volume 4).
- Viola--Vivaldi Concerto in D minor, 3rd mvt. (Suzuki, Volume 4).
- Cello--Breval Sonata in C major, Allegro (Suzuki, Volume 4).
- Instructions: All students auditioning must prepare the above piece along with two octave major scales C, G, D, A, E, B.
Wind & Percussion Audition Materials:
- All-State Audition Etudes (choose 2 contrasting ones). Percussionists must prepare the snare and keyboard etudes.
- All 12 major scales (at least one octave). Percussionists must play the scales on keyboards.
Spring Auditions for new Youth Orchestra String Players
