The Symphony Association, its musicians, and many volunteers are all dedicated to furthering music education and changing lives through education and outreach efforts. To this end, the Children's Concerts are performed each year in addition to the ISCS Classical Concert Season.
The annual Childrens Concert is a cooperative effort of the Symphony, its Youth Orchestra, and local School Districts for a special free concert for over 2,000 area 5th graders. School districts and educators make field-trip arrangements and the Symphony provides pre-concert information and helps with transportation costs, The ISCS Youth Orchestra Conductor/Artistic Director designs the programming and rehearses weekly with Youth Orchestra members to prepare for two morning concerts, with each concert filling Jensen Grand Concert Hall with students and their chaperones.
For many of these young students, this is their first exposure to the joys of watching a live musical performance designed especially for them and presented by the enthusiastic and talented student performers in the Youth Orchestra. Through this concert and other events, it's the hope of the ISCS that more young students will get involved in school music programs in middle school and in the ISCS Youth Orchestra.
